Pepper Potts is, without question, the right hand of Tony Stark. (We'd call her a right-hand man, but that wouldn't be entirely accurate.)
Originally hired to work in the secretarial pool at Stark Industries, she came to Tony Stark's attention by fixing an accounting error made by Tony himself. Her smarts as well as her uncanny ability to keep Stark on his toes led to his hiring her as his executive assistant.
Keeping a self-revealing superhero in line isn't the simplest job in the book, but she somehow manages it.
